Creating your own wordpress theme

I’ll probably move to this topic next, when I’m done with other stuff.

In the meantime, a fellow blogger wrote an entry on how he created his own wordpress theme.

Read his entry and follow his links in the entry. Shout for help here if you need any clarifications.

WP Cache Plugin

At the suggestion of Ansley, I decided to try out WP Cache plugin. Give me time to analyse how it is, since I’ve not used it before.

Will be back in a few days’ time.

Installing Wordpress

If..
- you have a domain of your own
- thinking of setting up a blog (regardless of the context)

I suggest Wordpress.

It works best on php platform, though it also works well on windows platform. =)

If you’ve not had a copy of the installation files, you can download it here. Do make it a point to read through their installation guide.

Here are screenshots of what you will see when you do the installation.

Note: Make sure you have configured the wp-config.php before uploading the files to your server.

Let’s say the url for the blog site is http://wordpresshelp.cloudie.net/

Step 1
Start by entering in the url http://wordpresshelp.cloudie.net/wp-admin/install.php

step1

Blog Title: As it says, the title of the blog
Your E-mail: The email of the blog administrator

Step 2
Click on “Install WordPress”.

Tada! And installation is done!

step2

Step3
With the username & password generated by the system, login to your wordpress.

step3

Step 4
Next up, change the password to something that you can easily remember!

Click on the “Users” link at the top right of the screen

step4a

Scroll down to the bottom.

step4b

Enter your new password and click on “Update Profile”.

And you’re done! Time to post your first entry!

Welcome to wordpresshelp

Hello!

A warm welcome to you!

I’m proud to announce the birth of http://wordpresshelp.cloudie.net/

Under the encouragement of an ex-colleague, who thought it would be helpful to just post possible encounters wordpress (on own-hosted domain) users might face. (Of which she’s one of the many) XD

So here goes. This will also be a place where I’ll try out the various wordpress plugins, as and when I chance upon one that I’ve not used before.

Feel free to leave a comment, as to what kind of solutions you’d need, or what kind of problems you’ve encountered. And I’ll try my best to put it up here and share with other users.

Meanwhile, I’m off to search for various open-source addons that I can implement here.

Ciao,
